ELBBL Law clinic

About Law Clinic

The ELBBL Law Clinic, known as Clinical Legal Education (CLE) and set up in 2016, runs as an elective specialization course in the ELBBL curriculums for the final year students.

CLE is an experiential learning program (learning by doing) in which law students can gain practical skills and deliver legal education/service to the local community in a social justice environment. By joining the clinic, students are given firsthand experience to enrich their legal education and professional development and make meaningful contribution to the community.

The Clinic exists for two purposes:

Academic Component

The CLE offers the Professional Legal Skills (PLS) course to equip students with practical lawyering skills and clearer understanding of legal ethics as well as the roles and responsibilities of a lawyer. The course is taught by an experienced lecturer with legal professionals such as judges, prosecutors, lawyers, and notaries joining as guest lecturers in class. Through this course, students will engage in discussing and simulating client scenarios, conducting research projects, either research briefs or teaching manuals, etc.

Service Component

Beyond the classroom, students have a chance to crystalize what they have learned to apply in a real-world setting through an internship program at partner institutions/law firms. Moreover, CLE also organizes various activities/projects including but not limited to workshops, seminars, public lecture series, mock training, community outreach, etc.

Community outreach is annually held as a bridge to connect our clinic students with the community whereby students are given the opportunity to share and teach legal and human rights knowledge regarding various legal topics to residents/high school students in the provinces.
