Mr. Matthew RENDALL

Adjunct Lecturer Teaching Cambodia’s Legal Theory and Practice

Mr. Matthew is an Australian attorney admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales. Matthew completed his law degree at Sydney University in 1991 and was entered onto the roll of Solicitors in December that year. After working in a Public Liability practice in Sydney, Matthew moved to Cambodia in 1994 and then worked on legal development programs funded by USAID and the Australian government that included teaching law at the Faculty of Business (now NUM), as part of the University of San Francisco law program, the Ministry of Justice, under The Asia Foundation Contract Law Program; and the Certificate in Law Program at the Community Legal Education Center (which he helped establish). Matthew has taught various law courses in the ELBBL Program and a Labor Law course at RULE.

Matthew also worked as a consultant to the Ministry of Land Management on the implementation of the Systematic Land Registration Program (funded by EWMI), part of which included writing a manual on the 2001 Land Law, jointly published by EWMI and The Ministry of Land Management. He has authored Textbooks on: Introduction to Cambodian Law (1999); The Constitution and Government of Cambodia (1999); International and Cambodian Human Rights Law (1998); Cambodian Property Law (1998); Cambodian Labor Law (Co-author) (2000); Practical Contract Law (1999); and Sale of Goods (1998). He also co-authored the Contract Law Textbook series published by The Asia Foundation (1994-1995). Currently, he is a co-author of the biennial Legal Aspects of Doing Business in Cambodia with Dr Sok Siphana. Outside academia, Matthew was the co-chair of the Committee on Foreign Ownership of Property, a board member of Britcham and Camfeba; and the former Managing Partner at Sciaroni and Associates. He also helped establish the Labor Arbitration Council in Cambodia and was its first appointed neutral arbitrator. Matthew is currently the Managing Partner at Sok Siphana and Associates.
