ELBML

Let’s hear from our students!

Sles Rositin (2021 Intake)

In the ELBML program, students will study with lecturers who earned postgraduate or doctoral degrees from world-class universities abroad and are now experts in the subjects they teach. Therefore, students will acquire sound legal knowledge both in theory and know-how techniques in real-life legal practice. Additionally, the courses are designed to meet with the market demand and legal and regulatory developments in our country. Personally, the legal knowledge as well as legal research, critical thinking and analytical skills I gained from ELBML are necessary and helpful for my work at the Ministry of Interior where I am involved in legal and regulatory reviews. After completing the Legal Method, Research and Analysis course, I become more confident in conducting legal research, including finding good and reliable sources and literature, assess and analyze them efficiently. I would recommend the ELBML program to law students, government officers and legal practitioners to further strengthen their ability in the legal field and research.

Huy Sambath (2021 Intake)

I have a few impressions about studying in the ELBML program at RULE. Firstly, the curriculum is interesting, and it responds to the recent career market in the law sector. The courses that I studied so far have provided me with a better understanding of the flow of financial transactions for business operation, Cambodia’s investment regime, its benefits of being a WTO member, the fundamentals of legal research, key principles and techniques for drafting commercial contracts as well as the process for settling commercial disputes through arbitration. Another important thing, the courses are taught by lecturers who are experienced lawyers, specializing in different areas of commercial law. The course materials and assignments are well-prepared. The lecturers are so kind and supportive. They have provided us with a lot of support and guidance. The last important thing about the program is that I feel so related to my classmates. We always share our learning experiences as well as the knowledge we have gained from the courses.

Kong Chansaravatey (2020 Intake)

ELBML is a very suitable program for those who are interested in domestic law, especially those who want to be or are currently a legal practitioner in Cambodia. Without a law background, I found it challenging at first to catch up with the lessons. However, the ELBML curriculum is very helpful since it includes the Introduction to Cambodia’s Legal Theory and Practice course which covers the foundational basis, substance, and knowledge of our legal system. The curriculum is practical as it covers various aspects of Cambodian law. I like that each course does not only incorporate theories and comparative aspects of international law and domestic law, but also dives deeper into the rationale behind the making of each law and, particularly, the current practice of the law in the Cambodian context, which I find extremely useful to broaden my perspectives in legal reasoning and analysis. Having studied with experienced legal practitioners, I find my understanding of Cambodian law and legal practice, as well as my legal reasoning and analysis skills, have been significantly improved. I look forward to further developing my legal knowledge and skills in the program. Therefore, I would highly recommend the ELBML program to those who wish to pursue a career in law.

Hin Pinnarith (2020 Intake)

During the course of my study at ELBML, I have learned more than I thought was possible. As a practicing lawyer and arbitrator, people may question why I must study in the ELBML program. Well, learning is a life-long journey, and there is more to this program than my initial expectation. In many ways, what I have learned from the program echoes exactly my working experience as a professional lawyer and arbitrator. My English proficiency and legal skills have improved significantly through each course I have taken. Especially, I am now more capable of drafting and revising contracts and writing legal memos in English, as well as conducting legal due diligence in commercial matters. What is more, my research skills have been enhanced through an opportunity to carry out my own research on a subject of my interest and explore holistic views on the research problem beyond legal matters. These are the skills I have strived to improve before joining the program. I can also confirm that courses and these skills provided in the program are highly relevant to the current practice in the Cambodian legal sector, which was the basis of my decision to join the program. I am now confident to say that my ability to organize and express my thoughts, knowledge, and ideas in legal writing and legal reasoning are more concise and coherent. I am definitely pleased with my study and look forward to learning more from experienced, enthusiastic and supportive lecturers in the program.

I am so glad that I chose to study at the English Language Based Bachelor of Law Program and it was an amazing experience. Not only did it give me a comprehensive understanding of legal research and writing, but it also improved my public speaking and teamwork skills. Plus, the moot court competition was  a great way to put my knowledge into practice. The atmosphere there is super friendly and helpful –the professors are always willing to answer any questions you have. All in all, it has been an amazing experience with plenty of opportunities to grow.

One of the best decisions I made was to join the ELBBL program. ELBBL course and the Jesup Competition have shaped the way I think and how I advocate for the causes I believe in, where in the courtroom or in everyday life. After all, to speak with authority is not to state what the rules are but to explain why they are what they are. It has further empowered me to know that we as a small group of people can achieve big things. These achievements could only be cherished with hardworking individuals whom I considered my lifelong friends. From critical discussions with my peer in the classroom to the immense support from the teachers, alumni, and staff, ELBBL has truly feel like a close-knit community to me.

ELBBL has been a door of opportunity for me since day one. I was able to develop myself significantly through the course and skills provided throughout the whole academic studies, including the available extracurricular activities. Having a strong foundation has given me the opportunity to expose to many international experiences and networks, which contributes a lot to my career path. Especially. I am grateful for the support system I have received from the professors at ELBBL, they are always open to provide feedback and advice on both academic and professional matters.
