ELBML Research
ELBML curriculum has a particular focus on academic legal research. Students can choose to either take an exit exam and submit a master’s research paper (of 10,000 words including footnotes) or write a master’s thesis (of 20,000 words including footnotes) as partial fulfilment of the requirement for the master’s degree. The curriculum is thus designed to bolster students’ legal research and academic writing capacity and skills through the Legal Method, Research and Analysis and the Advanced Academic Legal Writing courses.
ELBML works with the Center for the Study of Humanitarian Law (CSHL) to organize regular academic research training for students. To support students in their research projects, with support from the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI), ELBML also organizes various legal research skills training and workshops where students can present their research in progress and receive useful feedback from their supervisors, resource persons, and peers.
Legal research tutorials are also organized regularly to help students grasp the basics of legal analysis, reasoning, and writing.
