Mr. CHAN Nathan

Nathan specializes in teaching legal methods and the foundational legal skills of research, analysis, and writing. He started teaching at ELBBL in 2017 and has also taught in RULE’s International Master of Laws program.

Nathan has a lot of experience with moot court as well. Most recently, he coached RULE’s team in the 2021 Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition to a top 6% ranking for combined memorials and top 30% overall, with one team member placing in the Top 100 Oralists—the first female Cambodian to do so—and a second in the Top 500. Nathan has also judged the Cambodian national rounds for the Vis International Commercial Arbitration and International Humanitarian Law Moot competitions. During his J.D. studies, he earned the “Best Respondent’s Brief” award in the 2013 National Veterans Law Moot Court Competition and also competed in the 2014 National Appellate Advocacy Competition.

Outside academia, Nathan practices U.S. immigration law. He has worked on cases from Cambodia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Thailand, Venezuela, and the United States.

Nathan holds a J.D. from Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School, an LL.M. in Global Health Law from Georgetown University Law Center, and a B.Sc. (Pharm) from the University of British Columbia. He was admitted to the District of Columbia Bar in 2016.
